SALEM, Mo., (KBSI) — Nearly 2,000 anglers gathered at Montauk State Park for the opening day of Missouri’s catch-and-keep trout season, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The season began after longtime Montauk residents Jean and James Morton fired the traditional starter pistol to signal the start of fishing.
In preparation for the March 1 opener, Missouri Department of Conservation staff stocked 7,500 rainbow trout in the park’s surrounding pools from the Montauk Fish Hatchery.
Additional information about trout season is available on the department’s website.
