Cape Girardeau woman arrested after DWI crash on Broadway

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau woman was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly crashing into a building and another vehicle while attempting to leave the scene of a trespassing call, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at about 6:30 p.m. March 5 to the 500 block of Broadway in reference to a trespassing complaint. Police said the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Taylor Brinkley of Cape Girardeau, attempted to leave the area in a vehicle before officers arrived.

Authorities said Brinkley crashed into a building and another vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers quickly located Brinkley and took her into custody.

Police estimate the damage to the building at approximately $750.

Brinkley was charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office with first-degree property damage, a Class E felony; driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor; and leaving the scene of an accident, a Class A misdemeanor.

She is being held on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.

An arrest or charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
