Two arrested after aggravated battery reported in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — Two suspects have been arrested after police investigated a video circulating on social media that showed an aggravated battery in Carbondale.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers learned about the video around 8:15 a.m. March 6 and began investigating the incident. Police determined the battery occurred around 11:10 p.m. March 4 in the 100 block of North Illinois Avenue.

Investigators said two victims were battered by multiple males during what appeared to be a personal dispute.

Police identified the suspects as Tonndreick D. Williams, 18, of Carbondale, and a 15-year-old juvenile. Both were arrested on aggravated battery charges.

The juvenile was released to a guardian pending a court appearance, while Williams was taken to the Jackson County Jail to await a detention hearing. The juvenile’s name was not released in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act.

Police said one of the victims has been located and was found to be in good condition. The victim suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Investigators are continuing efforts to locate and identify a second victim.

Authorities thanked members of the public for bringing the video to their attention. The investigation remains ongoing.
