Temporary entrance planned for Melaina’s Playground during Cape County Park construction

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Cape Girardeau County Parks officials say a temporary entrance to Melaina’s Playground at Cape County Park – North is being constructed to maintain public access during ongoing park improvements.
The temporary entrance, located on Limbaugh Lane, will be used when construction limits access through the park’s main entrance. Officials expect the alternate entrance to be completed within the next several days.
Once current improvement projects are finished, the Limbaugh Lane entrance will become a permanent, dedicated entry point to the park.
County officials are also reminding visitors not to park in the private business development under construction west of the playground area or drive across unpaved sections of the park. Officials say parking in the nearby private construction zone creates safety concerns for both the public and construction crews.
Earlier this week, Cape County Park – North was closed March 10 through March 13 due to construction activity. During that time, park shelters and the playground were not accessible.
Park Superintendent Bryan Sander said the park is expected to reopen to the public by the weekend and asked residents to remain patient as construction continues.
