JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe has ordered U.S. and Missouri flags to be flown at half-staff Thursday in honor of a Butler County firefighter who died while responding to a call.

Flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset March 12 at government buildings in Butler County, the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri and firehouses across the state in honor of Butler County Fire Protection District Shift Commander Jackson Warren.

According to the governor’s office, Warren died the afternoon of March 6 while responding to a grass fire. Authorities said the brush truck he was driving crashed and overturned.

Another firefighter injured in the crash was treated at a hospital and later released.

“At an early age, Jackson Warren committed his life to public service and answered the call to join the fire service,” Kehoe said in a statement. “Shift Commander Warren will be remembered for his selfless service to others and devotion to creating a safer community.”

Flags will remain at half-staff on the day of Warren’s funeral.
