Reynolds County deputies warn residents about DMV scam texts

REYNOLDS COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Reynolds County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scam text messages claiming to be from the Missouri Department of Motor Vehicles regarding unpaid traffic tickets.
Authorities say the messages threaten driver’s license suspension and ask recipients to click links or provide payment or personal information.
Officials say the messages are fraudulent and remind residents that government agencies do not request payment or sensitive information through unsolicited text messages.
Anyone who receives a message like this is advised not to click links, provide personal information or send payment, and to delete the message.
Residents who believe they may have been targeted by a scam are encouraged to contact the Reynolds County Sheriff’s Office or report the incident at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
