Driver seriously injured after pickup crashes into tree in Metropolis

METROPOLIS, Ill., (KBSI) — A driver was seriously injured Friday morning after a pickup truck crashed into a tree in Metropolis, according to the Metropolis Fire Department.

Fire crews responded around 8:51 a.m. to the area of 16th and Market streets for a single-vehicle crash.

Authorities said the pickup truck left the roadway and struck a tree head-on. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by Massac EMS to the emergency department at Massac Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The Metropolis Police Department and the City of Metropolis Light Department assisted at the scene.

Officials said no additional information is being released at this time.
