ZEIGLER, Ill., (KBSI) — Emergency crews helped deliver a baby girl Friday morning after a woman went into labor in a Zeigler parking lot, according to the City of Zeigler Fire Department.
Dispatchers with Franklin County OEMC received a 911 call around 8:42 a.m. March 13 reporting a woman in active labor. The caller told dispatchers she had pulled into the parking lot of a Dollar General store in Zeigler.
Responding agencies included the Zeigler Fire Department, AMR of Southern Illinois and the Zeigler Police Department.
Firefighters and police officers began assisting the woman until ambulance crews arrived and began transporting her to Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
While en route to the hospital, the ambulance pulled over due to the rapid progression of labor. AMR personnel, along with Zeigler Fire Department Assistant Chief Kathie Flowers and Capt. Arthur Wroblewski, assisted in delivering a healthy baby girl.
Both the mother and baby were later transported to the hospital and are reported to be doing well.
Fire officials praised the responding crews for their teamwork and professionalism during the emergency response.
