Authorities investigate fatal mobile home fire near Benton

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Authorities are investigating after a person was found dead following a mobile home fire near Benton on Sunday morning.

Franklin County Emergency Management said crews were called around 8 a.m. to a mobile home fire on the outskirts of Benton, just outside the city limits.

Officials said the home was fully engulfed when crews arrived. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and discovered one person deceased inside the residence.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire departments from Benton, West Frankfort, Cave Eastern and Ewing Northern assisted at the scene.
