MADISON COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting following a disturbance and pursuit Tuesday evening in Madison County, according to Sheriff Nic Adams.
Dispatch received a report around 5 p.m. of a disturbance at a residence in Cobalt Village. Authorities said one of the individuals involved left the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not yield, leading to a pursuit. The vehicle later stopped at a nearby residence, where officers conducted a felony stop.
Sheriff Adams said the suspect produced a firearm during the encounter and pointed it at officers. After repeated commands to drop the weapon were ignored, officers fired their weapons.
The Fredericktown Fire Department assisted by deploying a drone to assess the scene. Authorities said the drone confirmed the suspect was down before officers approached. The suspect was later found dead at the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control has been requested to conduct an independent investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
