SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A Sikeston man was arrested Friday after fleeing from officers during an investigation into a suspicious person, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Officers responded around 10:09 a.m. March 27 to the 1800 block of East Malone Avenue and made contact with a man identified as Mike Newman, 44, of Sikeston.

During the investigation, officers said Newman provided inconsistent identifying information. A records check revealed he had an active no-bond warrant through Missouri Probation and Parole for a parole violation related to dangerous drugs.

Police said Newman fled on foot but was later located inside a nearby business on Missouri Street and taken into custody.

During an inventory of his vehicle, officers reported finding syringes, including one containing a liquid substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Newman is charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in the Scott County Jail on the parole violation warrant and a $75,000 cash or surety bond on the new charges.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
