MURPHYSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association has selected three local high school students to represent the cooperative on the 2026 Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
Summer Skelly of Murphysboro High School, Maddox Seaman of Carterville High School and Peyton Rixmann of Pinckneyville Community High School were chosen as this year’s delegates.
The Youth Tour, organized by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, provides students an opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, learn about the electric cooperative business model, meet elected officials and connect with peers from across the country.
More than 1,500 students nationwide are expected to participate in the weeklong program, which includes visits to historical and cultural landmarks, discussions with lawmakers and leadership development activities.
The Youth Tour has been held for nearly 60 years and has hosted more than 50,000 students.
EECA officials said the program helps develop future community leaders and congratulated the students on their selection.
The cooperative serves portions of 10 southern Illinois counties and provides electric service to its members, guided by its core values of integrity, accountability, teamwork and commitment to community.
