Hazmat training exercise set at Cape water treatment plant

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Cape Girardeau Fire Department will take part in a regional hazardous materials training exercise April 15 at the city’s water treatment plant.
Officials said the training will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 85 E. Cape Rock Drive and will simulate a chlorine leak scenario.
The Missouri Region E Homeland Security Response Team will participate alongside Alliance Water and agencies including the Jackson Fire Department, Sikeston Department of Public Safety and Stoddard County EMS.
Authorities said the exercise is designed to improve coordination and response to hazardous materials incidents. Residents may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles in the area during the training.
