SIU students to host rock and mineral clinic at Marion show

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — A rock and mineral show featuring hands-on activities and expert guidance is set for this weekend in Marion.
Students from Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host a rock and mineral clinic during the Marion Gem and Mineral Show, helping visitors identify samples and learn about geology.
The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at The Pavilion in Marion.
Organizers said attendees can bring in rocks, minerals and other finds for identification, with graduate students and Geology Club members offering insight into how samples are studied and classified.
The event also highlights SIU’s geology program, with students available to answer questions about academic opportunities.
Admission is $2 for adults, while those 18 and younger are admitted free.
