Williamson County to host Spring Clean-Up Day May 2

HERRIN, Ill., (KBSI) — Williamson County residents will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted items during a countywide Spring Clean-Up Day scheduled for Saturday, May 2.

The event, organized by the Williamson County Board of Commissioners, will take place from 7 a.m. to noon at the Republic Services Herrin Transfer Station, located at 12533 Bandyville Road.

Officials said the event is open to Williamson County residents only, and proof of residency will be required.

Accepted items include general household trash, electronics, non-commercial automotive tires and appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers. Car batteries, recyclables, plastics, metal and properly treated latex paint will also be accepted.

Items not accepted include oil-based paint, yard waste, medical sharps, roofing shingles, hazardous materials, household chemicals, flammable items and construction debris.

County officials said the annual event aims to reduce illegal dumping and improve the appearance of communities across the area.
