FBI Ten Most Wanted fugitive captured one day after being added to list

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — An FBI Ten Most Wanted fugitive was captured Thursday, one day after being added to the agency’s Top Ten list.

KaShawn Nicola Roper, 49, had been wanted in connection with a fatal 2020 shooting in Kansas City, Missouri.

Roper faced charges including second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, along with a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Authorities said Roper is accused of firing multiple shots at a vehicle during an altercation on Aug. 23, 2020. Two women were struck, and one of them died.

A state warrant for her arrest was issued in Jackson County on Sept. 10, 2020, followed by a federal warrant on July 1, 2021.

The FBI had offered a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her arrest.

Roper was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Officials said she had ties to Kansas City and connections to several states, including Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, Georgia and South Dakota.

Authorities previously warned she should be considered armed and dangerous.
