Jason Smith hosts Melania Trump for foster care roundtable in Washington

WASHINGTON (KBSI) — U.S. Rep. Jason Smith hosted First Lady Melania Trump for a roundtable discussion on improving the nation’s foster care system, according to a statement.

The discussion, held before the House Ways and Means Committee, focused on efforts to modernize foster care and better support youth aging out of the system.

Smith said Trump has been an advocate for foster youth and highlighted her involvement in the issue.

During the event, two young people with experience in the foster care system shared their perspectives and offered recommendations for reform aimed at improving outcomes for those in care.
