CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University will host its first Game Jam event April 24-26, bringing together students and aspiring developers to create original video games in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

The event, organized by the university’s Department of Computer Science and Game Development Club, will take place in Dempster Hall and begin at 5 p.m. Friday. Participants will receive a randomized theme and have the weekend to design and develop a playable game, with a final showcase and awards ceremony scheduled for Sunday.

Organizers said the event is designed to give students hands-on experience applying skills in programming, design and storytelling under time constraints similar to those in the gaming industry.

Participants may compete individually or in teams, and entries will be judged on creativity, execution and overall design. Winners will receive prizes and recognition.

Officials said the event also offers opportunities for networking, skill development and portfolio building. Games created during the competition will be available for public viewing online following the event.

The Game Jam is free to attend, though participants must register in advance. Organizers said students from both high schools and universities are encouraged to participate.
