Carbondale juvenile arrested after vehicle break-ins, police say

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 16-year-old Carbondale resident was arrested early April 24 after police responded to reports of someone entering multiple vehicles in a parking lot.
Officers were called around 2:36 a.m. to the 1100 block of East Grand Avenue, where they found the juvenile inside a vehicle with the keys in the ignition and headlights on, authorities said.
The teen fled on foot carrying a backpack but was apprehended after a brief chase. Police said the juvenile was found in possession of multiple items belonging to other people.
The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of burglary to a motor vehicle, motor vehicle theft and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
Authorities said the teen was taken to the Jackson County Jail pending transport to a juvenile detention facility while awaiting a court appearance.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
