Hail storm damages Dickerson Park Zoo; one animal killed

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KBSI) — Dickerson Park Zoo sustained significant damage during a hailstorm Tuesday, officials said.

Zoo officials reported no injuries to guests or staff.

However, a 21-year-old female emu died as a result of the storm. A male rhea is currently receiving veterinary care.

All other animals are safe, according to the zoo.

The zoo will remain closed Wednesday as staff assess damage and continue recovery efforts.
