SEMO to host free accounting summer camp for high school students June 12

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University will host a free accounting summer camp for high school students June 12 in Cape Girardeau.

The one-day camp is designed for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors and will introduce students to careers in accounting through hands-on activities, mentorship and discussions with professionals. No prior coursework in accounting is required.

Hosted by the university’s Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance in the Harrison College of Business and Computing, the camp will include activities focused on financial, managerial and tax accounting, as well as forensic accounting scenarios.

Students will also hear from alumni and current students during a panel discussion.

The event will be held in Robert A. Dempster Hall and will run from morning check-in through an afternoon wrap-up. Activities include interactive sessions, a scavenger hunt and a trivia competition.

Participants will be eligible for a $2,500 scholarship and will receive SEMO accounting merchandise, according to organizers.
