Carbondale teen arrested after shots-fired incident on South Ash Street

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 14-year-old Carbondale boy was arrested after police investigated a shots-fired incident Friday evening in the 500 block of South Ash Street.
Carbondale police said officers responded to the area around 6:20 p.m. May 8 after receiving reports of gunfire. Officers learned a suspect, described as a young Black male, was seen running eastbound through an alley in the 500 block of South Ash Street.
No injuries were reported.
During the investigation, officers identified the suspect as a 14-year-old male from Carbondale. Police said the juvenile was located and arrested Saturday on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.
The juvenile was taken to the Jackson County Jail while awaiting transport to a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance.
Police said the juvenile’s identity is not being released in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act.
