BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) — A man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he shot his mother in the head Monday in Bollinger County.
According to the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched May 18 to a home on Kel Tec Lane for reports of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators identified the suspect as Justin Freeman, the victim’s son.
Authorities said Freeman fled the scene in a small passenger vehicle before deputies arrived. When officers reached the residence, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
A short time later, Freeman was located in Stoddard County and taken into custody on three unrelated active arrest warrants, according to investigators. After being transported to the Bollinger County Jail, Freeman was placed on a 24-hour hold pending additional charges connected to the shooting investigation.
On Tuesday, May 19, authorities issued a warrant charging Freeman with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary. The warrant carries no bond.
The victim remains in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office. Freeman remains jailed on the new charges and the unrelated warrants.
The Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office said no further information will be released as the investigation continues.
