Body found in Big Muddy River during search for missing hiker in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) – Authorities said search crews located a body Tuesday in the Big Muddy River while searching for a missing hiker near the Little Grand Canyon area.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the individual matched the description of the hiker reported missing Sunday.
Search efforts continued through Tuesday with assistance from multiple agencies and volunteer searchers.
Officials said the body was found in the Big Muddy River, which runs into and alongside the Little Grand Canyon area.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death.
