MARION, Ill. (KBSI) — Marion Police Department arrested a woman early Saturday following a vehicle burglary investigation at a hotel on West Main Street.

Police said officers responded around 2:56 a.m. May 24 to the 2600 block of West Main Street after hotel staff reported seeing a woman checking vehicle door handles in the parking lot before entering an unlocked vehicle and taking a bag.

According to police, surveillance footage captured the incident, and officers quickly located the suspect vehicle at a nearby business.

Investigators identified the suspect as 51-year-old Misty Grady. Police said Grady admitted to taking the bag, and officers recovered the stolen property and returned it to the victim.

During a consensual search of the vehicle, officers said they found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Authorities said field testing showed a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.

Grady was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Williamson County Jail.

She was cited for vehicle burglary, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the vehicle was towed and evidence from the investigation was secured.

Authorities reminded residents to lock vehicle doors and avoid leaving valuables inside unattended vehicles.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
