Johnson County students offered free summer camps

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) — Children in Johnson County will have two free summer camp opportunities available this year through local organizations and grant funding.
Officials say 30 students will receive free one-week residential sessions at Camp Ondessonk through funding provided by the 21st Century grant program.
The overnight camp is open to students entering third grade or ages 10 to 15. Activities include swimming, kayaking, horseback riding, archery and crafts.

A second summer camp program will take place at Vienna High School and is led by members of the school’s Beta Club and Future Educators Club.
The day camp runs June 8 through July 2 from 11:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is open to students who completed first through eighth grades.
Organizers say the camp will include cooking, gardening, recreation and nature activities. Space is limited to 60 students.
