For Kids’ Sake awards scholarships to Southern Illinois students

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — For Kids’ Sake International awards $15,000 in scholarships to six Southern Illinois students during its “Evening of Heroes & Scholars” event May 19 in Carbondale.
The organization says the scholarships support high school seniors who have lost a parent and are pursuing careers in trade, technical or vocational fields. Each student receives a $2,500 scholarship.
Recipients include Presley Choate of Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School, Seth Duncan of Vienna High School, Lexia Land of Goreville High School, Londynn Pontious of Christopher High School, and CJ Schiefer and Mallory Shewmaker of Carbondale Community High School.
According to FKSI, students are pursuing careers in fields including nursing, construction management, automotive technology, cosmetology and dental hygiene.
The event also recognizes several supporters for their contributions to the organization, including DS Roofing & Custom Builders as Business of the Year, Shelby Lewicki as Donor of the Year and Nadya Jayawardene as Volunteer of the Year.
