LILBOURN, Mo. (KBSI) — A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support a 12-year-old New Madrid County girl injured in a shooting inside her home over Memorial Day weekend.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, to a shooting on Weeks Street in Lilbourn after reports that a home had been struck by gunfire.
Authorities said the child, who was inside the residence at the time, suffered gunshot wounds to her abdomen and hand. She was transported for treatment and was listed in stable condition following the shooting.
The fundraiser says the girl remains hospitalized as she begins what her mother describes as a long recovery process.
“On May 25th, my daughter’s life was changed forever,” the child’s mother wrote on the fundraiser page. “Our home was shot at, and my 12-year-old daughter was struck in the abdomen and hand.”
The mother said she is currently unable to work while traveling back and forth to St. Louis to remain by her daughter’s side.
“Right now, I am doing my best to care for her and my two other children,” she wrote. “The expenses are adding up quickly — between travel costs, food, and making sure my family is supported during this difficult time, it’s become overwhelming.”
The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the shooting and asks anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area near Weeks Street, North Fourth Street, North Fifth Street or North Sixth Street to contact investigators.
