Committee for a Stronger Jackson invites community to campaign kick-off for tourism initiative

Jackson Chamber of Commerce

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – The Committee for a Stronger Jackson is inviting community members to attend the campaign kick-off event for the proposed tourism initiative that will appear on the August 4 ballot.

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the Iron Mountain Railway in Jackson during the community’s popular Food Truck Rally.
Residents are encouraged to stop by, learn more about the proposed tourism initiative.

“Tourism is more than attracting visitors—it is economic development,” said Tina Weber, Treasurer for the Committee for a Stronger Jackson. “When visitors come to Jackson for events, sports tournaments, dining, shopping, and overnight stays, those dollars support local businesses and create opportunities throughout our community. This initiative would allow visitors to help invest in
promoting Jackson and supporting future growth.

The proposal would establish a 5% lodging tax on transient guests staying in hotels and motels within the City of Jackson. The tax would be paid by visitors, not local residents, and funds generated by the initiative are legally restricted to tourism-related purposes, including tourism promotion and convention and visitor bureau activities.

Committee members will be available to discuss how dedicated tourism funding could help:
● Promote Jackson as a destination
● Support community events and visitor attraction efforts
● Enhance tourism marketing initiatives
● Strengthen local economic development
● Increase visibility for Jackson businesses, attractions, and community assets
