Bardwell man arrested on DUI charge after report of intoxicated driver in Mayfield

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — A Bardwell man was arrested Wednesday after police said he attempted to drive away from a business while under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Mayfield Police Department, officers responded to a business on Paris Road at approximately 12:48 p.m. June 3 after receiving a report of an intoxicated man attempting to leave in a vehicle.

Officers identified the man as Ricky Cornett, 68, of Bardwell.

During the investigation, police located a nearly empty bottle of an alcoholic beverage inside Cornett’s vehicle. Authorities said officers determined Cornett had operated the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Cornett was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

He was transported to the Christian County Jail.

An arrest or criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
