CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau Public Library will offer free vision screenings for children next week in partnership with KidSight Missouri.

The screenings will take place following Storytime sessions at 11:30 a.m. on June 9 and June 10 at the library.

The service is available for children ages 6 months and older and uses a handheld, noninvasive photo-screening device designed to identify potential vision problems in young children. Results are provided immediately and indicate whether a child passes the screening or should be referred for further evaluation.

Parents of children who receive a referral will be provided with information about local pediatric eye care providers and available financial assistance programs.

Library officials said no registration is required. Screenings will begin at 11:30 a.m. and continue as long as participants remain in line.

All KidSight vision screening technicians have received specialized training and passed background checks.
