Carrier Mills officer receives lifesaving award for CPR response

CARRIER MILLS, Ill., (KBSI) — A Carrier Mills police officer was recognized with a lifesaving award after helping save a resident during a medical emergency.

According to the Carrier Mills Police Department, Officer Graves responded to a medical call on May 26. Upon arrival, she assessed the situation and began providing emergency care while awaiting the arrival of EMS personnel.

Police said the patient became unresponsive and stopped breathing. Officer Graves performed CPR until medical personnel arrived and took over care.

The department said her quick actions, professionalism and commitment to preserving life were instrumental during the emergency.

Officer Graves was recently presented with a lifesaving award and uniform pin in recognition of her efforts. She was congratulated by colleagues and the patient, Tabitha Sherryls, during the presentation.

Police Chief S.A. Isaacs praised Graves for her response, noting that her actions reflected the highest standards of law enforcement service.
