CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Old Town Cape will host a kickoff event June 27 for the 2026 Downtown Sculpture Exhibition, a public art display featuring large-scale sculptures throughout downtown Cape Girardeau.

The exhibition will showcase six sculptures along Broadway in the city’s historic district. The sculptures were selected through a juried process that welcomed submissions from local, regional and national artists.

The artwork will remain on display from June 2026 through June 2027, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to experience public art throughout downtown. Most of the sculptures will be available for purchase.

The exhibition traces its roots to the Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, a program established more than a decade ago by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.

The kickoff event is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. June 27 at Ivers Square. Organizers said the family-friendly festival will recognize the selected artists and allow community members to meet them.

Additional activities will include pottery demonstrations, sidewalk chalk art, plein air painting, dancers, button making, live music and other interactive art displays. Food and craft vendors will also be on site.

Admission is free, and children’s activities will be offered at no cost.

The Downtown Sculpture Exhibition is supported by the Downtown Cape Girardeau Community Improvement District and the City of Cape Girardeau.
