Murray woman arrested on drug charges following traffic stop

MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — A Murray woman was arrested Tuesday night on drug-related charges following a traffic stop, according to the Murray Police Department.

Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop on North 12th Street at approximately 9:53 p.m. During the stop, officers learned one of the vehicle’s occupants had an active warrant.

K-9 Bonnie was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, authorities said.

During the investigation, a passenger was allegedly found in possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Leah Newcomer, 39, of Murray, was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second offense (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also charged with failure to pay in connection with an unrelated warrant.

The Murray Police Department noted that all individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
