SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI)— The Scott County Coroner’s Office says its investigation remains ongoing into the death of a man who died while in the custody of a Scott County law enforcement agency.
In a statement released Friday, Coroner John Cody Caudle said the body of Mr. Gilmore has been secured pending a forensic autopsy scheduled to be performed by a board-certified forensic pathologist.
According to the coroner’s office, standard forensic and evidentiary procedures prohibit access to the decedent until the examination begins in order to preserve potential evidence and maintain the integrity of the investigation.
Officials said the family has been informed of the procedures and the temporary restrictions. Arrangements for family viewing may be made after the autopsy is completed and the body is released by the forensic pathologist.
The coroner’s office emphasized that no cause or manner of death has been determined.
Authorities said additional information will be released as appropriate upon completion of the investigation.
