Carbondale man dies after early morning shooting; suspect in custody

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A Carbondale man has died following a shooting early Friday morning in the 200 block of West Jackson Street, according to the Carbondale Police Department.
Officers responded at 12:53 a.m. to a report of a gunshot victim and found Marshaun Williams, 32, of Carbondale, suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot. Williams was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite lifesaving efforts by responding officers and hospital staff, Williams later died from his injuries, police said.
A second gunshot victim, identified as Brent Battles, 51, of Radcliff, Kentucky, and formerly of Carbondale, arrived at a hospital shortly after the shooting. Police said Battles remains in stable condition and is in custody.
According to investigators, Battles is considered a suspect in the shooting. Charges are being reviewed by the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Police said the shooting appears to have stemmed from an ongoing personal dispute between the two men. Authorities do not believe there is a threat to the general public.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
