CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri Pets and Scooter’s Coffee are partnering this week to raise money for shelter animals across the region.
The fundraiser gives customers an opportunity to receive a free dirty soda while making a donation to support Southeast Missouri Pets, a nonprofit rescue organization that relies entirely on community support.
The event runs June 22-26 at Scooter’s Coffee, located at 1705 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. An additional fundraiser event is planned June 23 at the Jackson location.
Customers who stop by can receive a free dirty soda and are encouraged to make a donation to support the shelter’s animals and operations.
SEMO Pets Executive Director Jenn Farmer said donations collected during the fundraiser will help cover daily operating expenses, including food, utilities, medical care and supplies for animals waiting to be adopted.
“We are 100% donation based,” Farmer said. “We get no help from Humane Society of America, from ASPCA. We are community based, so this helps us out tremendously. From the lights to food to medical supplies for our animals.”
Farmer said the shelter is also in need of dog and puppy food, martingale collars and items from its Amazon wish list.
She said partnerships with local businesses play an important role in helping nonprofit organizations continue serving the community.
“Local businesses are amazing,” Farmer said. “We want to keep local and support everybody that we can.”
Organizers say anyone unable to attend the fundraiser can still support SEMO Pets through monetary donations, supplies or items listed on the shelter’s wish list. Find more information at SemoPets.org/Donate.
