Woman killed in two-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County

PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A 70-year-old woman from Hayti Heights was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 south of Hayti, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 3:33 p.m. on June 21, approximately five miles south of Hayti.

Troopers said a 2017 Ford Escape and a 2017 GMC Yukon collided while traveling southbound on I-55. Following the collision, the Ford Escape ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 70-year-old woman from Hayti Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Bryan Irions.

The driver of the GMC Yukon, a 48-year-old man from Caruthersville, was not reported injured and drove the vehicle from the scene.

According to the crash report, the woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop E and was the troop’s 23rd traffic fatality of 2026.
