CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale will officially unveil the Robbie Stokes Memorial Stage during a special Sunset Concert Series event on Thursday, June 25, at the New Era Events Plaza.

The concert, scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 200 S. Washington St., will mark the first performance at the new downtown venue and honor the legacy of Robbie Stokes, a longtime Southern Illinois musician, sound engineer and advocate for the local music community.

Representatives from the city and members of the Stokes family will offer remarks before the performances begin.

Southern Illinois singer-songwriter Jeremy Todd will open the event, becoming the first opening act featured in the annual Sunset Concert Series. Headlining the evening will be The Way Down Wanderers, known for blending Americana, bluegrass, folk and roots music.

Following the concert, organizers plan to host a surprise after-show performance on the lawn.

The free, all-ages event will also feature food vendors, including Big Nate’s, Fire & Ice, Cielito Azul Aguas Frescas and Dave’s Bagels.

Organizers said the Robbie Stokes Memorial Stage is expected to serve as a gathering place for future concerts, festivals and community events in downtown Carbondale.

Attendees are reminded that glass bottles, kegs, smoking, grilling, solicitation and underage drinking are prohibited. Pets are allowed but must remain on a leash.

The concert is free and open to the public.
