Carbondale athlete heads to Special Olympics National Games

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Friends, family members and law enforcement officers gathered at Carbondale City Hall on June 18 to send off a local athlete competing in the 2026 Special Olympics National Games.

Sheridan was escorted through Carbondale by police as she departed for the national competition, which begins Friday.

Sheridan will compete in powerlifting events, including the squat, bench press and deadlift.

The Carbondale Police Department joined family and supporters in wishing Sheridan success as she represents the region on the national stage.
