CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that U.S. 60/62 over the Mississippi River in Alexander County will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily beginning Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, for bridge maintenance work.

No marked detour will be posted. Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the closure.

The work is expected to be completed by Friday, July 10.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.

Motorists traveling on Route K in Cape Girardeau County should expect overnight lane reductions beginning June 29 as crews complete asphalt paving work.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Southeast District, Route K will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction from Michael Drive to County Road 206 near Cape Girardeau.

Weather permitting, construction crews will work nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. beginning Monday, June 29, and continuing through Monday, July 20.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the area, watch for workers and equipment, and expect potential delays during overnight hours.

The restrictions are part of an ongoing roadway improvement project in the area.
