Storms Likely Saturday, Heat and Humidity to Follow
Heavy rainfall remains a concern through the weekend, as some areas could end up with localized rainfall totals between three and six inches. A Flood Watch is in place until 7 a.m. CDT on Sunday, June 28.
Isolated severe storms remain possible on Saturday for the Heartland. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place as several rounds of storms move through the area. All severe weather hazards could be seen in the strongest storms, along with flash flooding.
Overnight lows will be close to average for the Heartland, falling to the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Storms remain likely for the Cape Girardeau area through Friday night. Chances for storms will also pick up throughout Saturday morning.
Cloud cover and storm chances look to keep a handful of our counties slightly below average to start the weekend. Highs in the upper 80s cannot be ruled out for the southern half of the viewing area.
Any outdoor plans on Saturday may want to have a backup indoors. Storm chances will stick around for the majority of the day in Cape.
By Sunday afternoon, we trade the storm chances for hot and humid conditions across the viewing area. Highs will climb to the middle 90s with heat indices in the triple digits. We will likely need a heat advisory or extreme heat warning early next week.
