Suspect arrested after break-in at Mississippi Mutts in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A suspect has been arrested following an overnight break-in at Mississippi Mutts in downtown Cape Girardeau.
According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, officers responded to the 600 block of Broadway around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, for a reported burglary.
When officers arrived, they found a broken window at the business. Police said approximately $155 in cash was reported stolen.
Investigators identified a suspect during the investigation.
Police said officers located the suspect walking on Green Acres Drive around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11. The suspect allegedly resisted an officer before being taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to the Cape Girardeau Police Department pending formal charges.
Mississippi Mutts said in a social media post that the person who broke into the store smashed a window to get inside and took a bank bag and cash from the register.
The business said the break-in left behind damage and a significant mess. Despite the incident, Mississippi Mutts said it plans to remain open while cleanup and repairs continue.
The business also thanked the Cape Girardeau Police Department and neighboring businesses for their assistance following the break-in.
