BENTON, Ky. (KBSI) — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scammers impersonating a deputy in an attempt to obtain money or personal information.
According to the sheriff’s office, scammers have been calling residents while claiming to be Deputy Tim Reynolds. Officials said the reasons given during the calls have varied and have included claims that victims must pay a bond on an arrest warrant, make a restitution payment or provide personal identifying information.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that deputies will never request money over the phone or ask for personal identifying information unless they are completing a case report with a resident.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call claiming to be from law enforcement is encouraged to hang up and contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office directly to verify whether the call is legitimate.
