Avenue of the Flags to honor 21 veterans during Independence Day celebration

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Avenue of the Flags will kick off its annual Independence Day celebration Friday with the placement of hundreds of American flags and a weekend ceremony honoring local veterans.

Volunteers will begin placing the flags at 7 a.m. Friday, July 3.

The organization will induct 21 new veterans into the Avenue of the Flags program during a ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4. Following the ceremony, organizers will hold a ribbon-cutting for the new Patriots Pavilion and provide food and drinks for those in attendance.

Organizers are inviting community members to help place and remove the flags or attend the ceremony to celebrate Independence Day. The flags are scheduled to be taken down beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 7.
