CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Contractor, Nip Kelley, will begin Phase 1 construction on the new Cape Rock Drive Sidewalk project as soon as July 6, 2026 starting near Kingshighway intersection. Traffic on Cape Rock Drive will remain open in both directions, however half of the westbound lane will be coned off in the block or two where the Contractor is working at any given time. Drivers are urged to slow down in the construction zone and to obey the traffic safety signs for their own safety as well as the safety of the construction workers.
The sidewalk will be constructed on the north side of the road and the work will proceed eastward, with Phase 1 ending at Brookwood Drive. The contract work on Phase 1 is expected to last until late October. Phase 2 of the new sidewalk construction from Brookwood Drive to Perryville Road will begin as soon as possible after completion of Phase 1. The new sidewalk is funded substantially through two reimbursement grants from the MoDOT Transportation Alternatives Program.
Route AA in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.
This section of roadway is located from County Road 807 to County Road 544.
Weather permitting, work will take place Thursday, July 23 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
