Carbondale man arrested in business burglary investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill. (July 6, 2026) — A Carbondale man was arrested after police investigated a burglary at a business over the weekend.
According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded at 6:24 a.m. Monday to a business in the 600 block of East Main Street after receiving a report of a burglary.
Investigators determined the suspect broke into the business at about 8 a.m. on July 4, causing damage and stealing property.
Police identified the suspect as 46-year-old Scott R. Schwartz of Carbondale. Officers located and arrested Schwartz on charges of burglary, criminal damage to property and theft.
Police also recovered some of the stolen property and returned it to the business.
The investigation remains ongoing.
