Man drowns while fleeing deputies after reported domestic battery in Alexander County

MCCLURE, Ill. (KBSI) — A man died after drowning in a creek Monday while fleeing deputies who were attempting to arrest him following a reported domestic battery, according to the Illinois State Police.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a domestic battery in McClure, Illinois State Police said.

Deputies attempted to take a man into custody, but he fled the scene.

Authorities later located the man in a creek near Grapevine Trail and Levee Road. Emergency responders were unable to reach him before he drowned, police said.

Illinois State Police are investigating the incident. No additional information has been released.
