PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) —The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is planning lane restrictions on the U.S. 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake at Aurora, starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 14 for a scheduled inspection.
Lane restrictions will be in place July 14 through July 17. Crews will use an under-bridge inspection vehicle (UBIV) and climbers to perform a thorough, hands-on inspection.
Motorists should be alert for signage and trucks with arrow boards guiding traffic to shift into the open lane.
Lane restrictions are expected to be lifted by about 3 p.m. Friday, July 17, weather permitting.
Use caution where workers and equipment are along the roadway near traffic flow.
The Eggners Ferry Bridge is located at U.S. 68 Marshall County mile point 28.146 and Trigg County mile point 0.0. The bridge serves as the western entrance to The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.
Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements on Route V in Madison County.
This section of roadway is located from Route F to County Road 244.
Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, July 20 through Thursday, July 23 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Drivers should anticipate short, intermittent lane reductions in the vicinity of the work zone.
Seal coats are a pavement repair process that is used by MoDOT on roads with lower traffic volumes to maximize available resources and extend the life of the roadway. Hot emulsion oil is sprayed onto the surface of the road, followed by finely ground rocks which are then compacted to adhere to the roadway. Excess material is swept off the surface, leaving an improved roadway that will hold up longer against the elements.
The method costs about one third the amount of a traditional asphalt overlay. The treatment keeps water from penetrating the surface, extends the life of the roadway up to seven years, and provides improved traction.
