Gov. Beshear requests health update from Sen. Mitch McConnell

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KBSI) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is requesting an update on the health of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell amid growing public concern about the senator’s ability to serve.

In a letter sent Wednesday to McConnell’s office, Beshear asked the senator to provide an update on his current health status.

“Over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the health and well-being of Sen. McConnell,” Beshear said in a statement. “Allowing speculation to continue in the media is not fair to the Senator or to Kentuckians, and my hope is that this provides him the opportunity to share the information in a transparent manner, direct from the source.”

Beshear said he wishes McConnell “a safe and speedy recovery.”

The governor’s request follows reports that McConnell was admitted to a hospital June 14. Beshear’s office said limited information has been released by the senator’s office since then and that the governor’s administration has received an increasing number of inquiries about McConnell’s condition.

Rather than contribute to speculation, Beshear said he chose to contact McConnell directly and request an update.
